Croatian Conservation-Restoration Society

23/10/2026

The Croatian Conservation-Restoration Association (HRD), founded in 1994 in Zagreb, is a professional association that brings together conservator-restorers and other experts involved in the preservation of cultural heritage in the Republic of Croatia.
Its members work in both the private and public sectors—including museums, galleries, libraries, archives, universities, and other institutions—and the membership also encompasses students and researchers.
The core objectives of the HRD are to promote and develop the conservation-restoration profession, safeguard its professional and ethical interests, and raise awareness regarding the importance of preserving cultural heritage. The Association organizes professional events, fosters the exchange of knowledge and experience, and collaborates with both domestic and international institutions and professional organizations.
Since 2014, the HRD has been a member of the European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers’ Organisations (E.C.C.O.), thereby connecting the Croatian conservation-restoration community to a broader European professional network.

ConRestCon – International Conservation-Restoration Conference

ConRestCon is an annual professional conference launched by the Croatian Conservation-Restoration Society in 2022 in Zagreb, as part of the European Heritage Days celebrations. It brings together conservator-restorers, researchers, students, and experts from the field of cultural heritage preservation and related disciplines.
Between 2022 and 2025, four editions of the conference were held, during which ConRestCon evolved from a national event into an international professional gathering. The conference provides a platform for presenting projects, research, methods, and technologies, as well as for exchanging experiences regarding contemporary challenges in cultural heritage preservation.
A significant component of ConRestCon is the poster exhibition, where authors showcase specific projects, methodologies, and the results of their work. Following their initial presentation in Zagreb, these exhibitions have toured other Croatian cities, making the professional content accessible to the general public.
The exhibition Restoration Achievements II (Restauratorske realizacije II) features a selection of work presented at the 2025 ConRestCon conference, offering insight into the diversity of conservation-restoration practice and the processes involved in preserving artworks and cultural heritage.
ConRestCon and its accompanying exhibitions contribute to greater visibility for the conservation-restoration profession, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and highlight to the public the importance of professional and responsible cultural heritage preservation.
