Structures
Ivan Valušek

Ivan Valušek: The cycle “structure of creation” is based on the idea of implementing sculpture directly into the material. The basic building element of the form is the iron bars, which are like a line the starting point. In doing so, emphasis is placed on the imaginary process that spontaneously guides the form towards the final appearance of the sculpture.
Produced using the electric arc welding technique, the rods densely welded into amorphous coiled forms extract from the material a structure that arouses a different vocation of the material than its expected one, transforming seemingly into something organic.
By performing directly in the material, the form is formed at the moment of the thought process and the decisions we make at that moment, devoid of previous beliefs…
My sculptures are like spiritual beings living parallel to us, but on a different frequency, suggesting a constant flow of energy.
Eugen Borkovski: Ivan Valušek builds forms by developing an idea he has been working on for many years. He offers the impression of organicity using inorganic material. The elongated forms have no end, they continue and are lost in layers or outside the format. The artist sets tasks for the viewer. Although a series of works appear uniform, moving from work to work we encounter constant changes in intensity. Our, Western civilization has always had an unrealistic approach to the passive-active relationship, presenting rhythm and change as a surplus of reality instead of as active principles. A commentary on this state of affairs is in the premise of these works. Only modernity interprets the world according to the idea of the author, the creative person. In the creative process, technique, material, forms are left to the creator who is no longer God but one of us. The world is not a certain and secure situation. The world is a series of constant changes. The changes of spatialized paper shown here draw us into reflection on this. Ivan’s works represent the axioms of the flow of transience, which, through shapes and textures, convey knowledge about the richness of the beauty of moments of change. A materialized insinuation of the possible, signed by fragments of the fragile certainty of the moment. This is where the power of this series is most evident.
Ivan Valušek was born in Rijeka in 1985.
He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Prof. Stjepan Gračan and in 2010 he obtained the title of Master of Sculpture. He has been exhibiting since 2006.
